Ukraine wine harvest 2023: Sipping resilience

Decanter publishes a report on Ukraine’s 2023 harvest season amid the ongoing war. Svitlana Tsybak, CEO of Beykush Winery, describes the challenges of the past 18 months: the family winery’s 13-hectare estate sits just two kilometres from occupied territory. Despite rockets overhead, last year’s harvest was high quality thanks to dry, hot weather, and the winery plans to increase production by 20% as two newly planted hectares come into bearing. Tsybak, who also co-founded the Wines of Ukraine association, reports growing export volumes — Estonian partners started with one pallet and now order 5–6 pallets per month. She notes that recovery of production in some regions will take at least a decade.
