Loca Deserta is the flagship red wine of Beykush from the Historical Series, a complex blend of six varieties: Merlot (33%), Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (27%), Rubin (15%), Malbec (10%), Tempranillo (10%), and Pinot Noir (5%). Loca Deserta is the Latin name for the "Wild Field," a historical term for the Black Sea steppes found in Polish-Lithuanian documents of the 16th-18th centuries. Recognized as one of the TOP 12 Ukrainian wines by Masters of Wine, this wine embodies the character of these lands.
Each of the six varieties is hand-picked separately in mid-October — late harvesting ensures full berry ripeness. After picking, the varieties are crushed and fermented individually in small stainless steel tanks or open-top oak casks. Once alcoholic and malolactic fermentation are complete, the wine is pressed, settled, racked, and laid down for aging in French oak barrels for at least 30 months. Each variety is aged separately, and only then does the winemaker create the final blend.
But even after blending, the wine does not go to market immediately — it is additionally aged in bottles for 6 months, allowing the blend to fully integrate. 30 months in oak, 6 months in bottle, six varieties, 14.5% alcohol — Loca Deserta is the most ambitious wine in the Beykush portfolio.

Tasting Notes
First come fat figs and prunes, then toast with marmalade and hints of coffee. Artania's power and intensity were softened over 30 months in oak barrels and 6 months in bottle before release — yet this wine will summon them again willingly for a hearty dinner, especially if meat is on the table.
